Installing PageTools
PageMaker 5.0 or 6.0 must be installed on the Macintosh prior to installing PageTools.
1. Restart with Extensions off, insert the PageTools disk, then run the installer by double-clicking the PageTools installer icon.
2. After successful installation, restart your Macintosh.
Registering PageTools
1. Launch PageMaker.
2. When requested, enter the serial number located on the PageTools disk label.
3. Please register using one of the built-in electronic registration methods.
Microtek Scanners
Microtek scanners may interfere with the built-in electronic registration process. If you are using a Microtek scanner, please turn it off before attempting to register PageTools. You may turn the scanner back on once the registration process is complete.
Software Compatibility Notes
Directory Assistance II
If Norton Directory Assistance II is installed and PagePreview is turned on, users will receive an error of Type 1 when selecting the Open dialog box. To avoid this, turn off Directory Assistance or the “display previews” preference in PagePreview.
Adobe Type Reunion
Adobe Type Reunion can cause font information to appear in the PageTools pop-up menus if you are using a large number of fonts. When ATR is loaded with many fonts it begins to use resources from other places, including PageTools. If this ATR conflict occurs, load fewer fonts, or use a font management utility such as Suitcase to reduce the number of fonts loaded at one time.
Thunder 7 & BigThes
If Thunder 7's or BigThes interactive spell checking is active in PageMaker while running PageTools, items in PageMaker's menus begin to disappear. To avoid this, turn off interactive checking.
Helpful Hints
PageGlossary, PageType and PageTabs store all the format entries in the Preferences files for each component. If there is ever a need to throw away Preferences you will want to make sure you don’t lose all your format entries.
Saving your Formats to separate file:
1. Open PageType, PageGlossary, or PageTabs
2. Click the Preferences button
3. Click the Export button
4. Put a check mark next to each format you want to save to the file.
5. Click the Export button
6. Name your export file and choose the destination folder.
Hint - Put the name of the component somewhere in the filename.
7. Click the Save button
Retrieving Formats from disk:
1. Open PageType, PageGlossary, or PageTabs
2. Click the Preferences button
3. Click the Import button
4. Locate your saved file
5. Click the Open button
6. Check the formats you want to import
7. Click the OK button
